2. This double CD contains a very generous collection of major Debussy piano works including both books of Preludes, Pour the Piano, Estampes, both sets of Images and Children's Corner. They are played by the legendary Walter Gieseking and were recorded in 19[the Preludes] and [the other works on the second CD]/5(12).

3. Dec 13,  · these preludes took me a long time to "get into". i picked them up on one disc for a buck at a garage sale many years ago. the disc itself is some kind of emi import from france, oddly enough, and contains a recording from the s/5(5).

Originally recorded in 19in monaural sound, Walter Gieseking's magisterial performances of Debussy's preludes were first released on CD in as a single disc, and they have been reissued in various guises many times since. Gieseking more or less owned these pieces during his lifetime and his performances have been judged as definitive by many 9/

5. Similarly, the great German pianist Walter Gieseking seemed to have dibs on the Debussy Preludes. His /39 versions were staples of the 78 (rpm) catalog, as well as his 19LP remakes. The present release in EMI’s Great Recordings of the Century series marks the third time Gieseking’s versions are reissued on CD.
